Hola, querida Zoe, y paz a usted!

Espero que usted se siente bien hoy y que no es demasiado frio donde estes (I hope you're feeling well today and that it's not too cold where you are). He pensado a menudo en los ultimos dias debido a que ha sido frio y lluvioso aqui y asi que he tenido un poco de dolor (I have thought of you often over the past few days because it has been cool and rainy here and so I have had some pain). Espero que haya sido mejor para ti (I hope it has been better for you). Tenga cuidado y JAH te bendiga! (Take care and may JAH bless!).

Otra vez, paz a usted!

Su sirviente, compañera de estudios, y una esclava de Cristo,

SA

Hola GL, Muy buenos ejemplos. Allow me to correct a little detail. She is the best teacher(Ella es LA mejor maestra). "El mejor" is male, and "la mejor" is female.

Is it because "maestrA" is the noun that determines the article, dear Jochy (peace to you!)? With "maestrO" being a [male] teacher, "maestrA" being female?

So, if dear GLT's teacher (peace, dear one!) was a male, the masculine form of the noun and article... "el maestrO"... would be accurate?

This is one of the reasons I posted the lesson re nouns and articles because I always get tripped up here. For example, I think I may have even called myself "companero" and "esclavo"... versus "companerA" and "esclavA". Meaning "fellow" (as in "fellow student") and "slave."

Thanks for reminding us of this!

Well, here's the first one:

I nurture a white rose
in July as in January,
for the true friend
who offers me his loyal hand.

And for the merciless one who wrenches out
the heart by which I live,
thistle nor thorn do I nurture:
for him, I nurture a white rose.

BURNS SAID

Here's a few verses from the second roughly done

Guantanamera

A sincere man I am
from where the palms grow
and before I want
to give verses from my soul

I come from every place
and to every place I go
Art before the arts
en the mountains, mountain am I

I no the strange names
of the plants and the flowers
and of deadly deceptions
and sublime sufferings

I have seen in the dark night
rain upon my head
the rays of pure light
of the divine beauty

Wings I saw sprout in the shoulders
of beautiful women
and out of the shadows
butterflies flying

I have seen a man live
with a dagger in his side
without ever naming
that which had killed him

Fast, like a reflection
twice I saw the soul, twice
When the poor old man died
when she told me goodbye

Terrible one time, at the gate
the entrance to the vineyard
when the cruel bee
stung my daughter's forehead

I rejoiced one time for such luck
More joy than ever:--when
When the sentence of my death
The judge read weeping

I hear a sigh, across
The land and sea
And it is not a sigh,
But that my son will awaken

If they say that the jeweler
keeps the best jewel for himself
I take a sincere friend
And put love on my side

I have seen the wounded eagle
Fly into the tranquil blue
And die in its lair
The poisonous viper

I know well that when the world,
cedes, livid, to rest
Over the silent deep
The peaceful stream murmurs

I have placed the bold hand
of horror and rigid joy
Over the darkened star
that fell in front of my doorstep

I hide in my brave breast
The shame that wounds it
The son of a slave people
Live for it, silence, and die

All is beautiful and constant
All is music and reason
And all, like the diamond
before light is coal

I know the fool buries himself
with great luxury and great noise
And that there is no fruit on earth,
like the churchyard

I silence, I understand, and I take away from myself
the pomp of rhymer
I hang from the dead tree
the cape of "doctor" (in the sense of high education)
