I simply don't get it. If atheists are happy with their personal findings and research resulting in their non belief in god, then fine. But they don't stop attacking believers at every turn! Why?
It really is beyond me, and I find it so frustrating trying to understand it.

I'm not an atheist but in my experience the attacks go both ways. It is hurtful the things some believers say when trying to defend their own beliefs. Sometimes it seems that both sides are actually trying to convince themselves.

I'm more of "idontgiveafuck" when it comes to what others think I should believe or not believe.

I suppose that is a crude way of saying live and let live.

Anger begets anger, unfortunately. The TRULY unfortunate thing is that people tend to take out their anger on the ones who did nothing to infringe upon their rights, or scorn their beliefs, or mock their choices, etc. Then those are like 'wtfrick?', and then the circle continues.

Deep breath.

Love, mercy, forgiveness... if anything can change a cycle, these teachings of Christ (and that some have written upon their hearts naturally) can.

Peace,
tammy

I see your patience Tammy, and am humbled so often. It just seems that they're 'driven' to scorn somehow? William yes I take your point, I have no desire to change anyone's stance or belief and I don't begrudge them their choices. Enough of all that in the KH for me.

And currently on another forum it looks like one atheist has taken a step too far doesn't it, and is suffering for it.
*shakes head at the stupidity of it all*

People who are TRULY happy with their beliefs... which is often born out in whether they are truly happy with themselves (and can include whether they are happy with their particular lot in life)... aren't usually angry, dear Loz (the greatest of love and peace to you, dear one!)... or in angry opposition to those who don't believe as they do/believe differently from them. This applies to believers AND unbelievers alike.

Anger is often born of some level of hatred, though, often of the person (but just often of what the person does, believes, doesn't do or believe). And this "hatred" is usually rooted on things fear... which is often rooted in ignorance.

Not always of course. Some were just angry children and simply grew up to be angry adults. J/K - LOLOL

Don't worry yourself about it too much, dear one. Each one must work out why another "makes" them angry... and then try to learn how to deal with that. If they can (talking it out can help but that takes courage... and just a tad a desire to truly understand. Not all can do this understandably as sometimes it's difficult to condescend and do it... especially if the anger is deeply rooted.

It is a shame though when such anger is directed personally... and even more when the angry cant or won't admit that they are in fact angry. That's usually because they know that they have no REAL grounds for it... but just can't help themselves.

Maybe they'll be able to work it out someday. Lets hope so!

Again, peace to you!

YOUR servant and a slave of Christ,

SA

It's particularly difficult for me that my estranged eldest son (by his choice not mine) is on another forum as a staunch atheist. He suggests that as a believer I am either evil, a liar, or nuts. His conditions for a relationship amount to my admitting such. I really can't understand nor accept this judgemental attitude. I am not going to denounce my beliefs for anyone, even a son. It would indeed make me a liar!

And currently we are accused of joining a cult on this forum? Unbelievable. And they think we're paranoid!

Sorry all, by tomorrow I will have resumed normal detaching behaviour, but tonight it's getting to me. X

It's likely that many angry atheists are concerned with religion and all the atrocities that have been done in the name of god.

They also look at the Bible's Old Testament which gives witness to a god who protects you if you behave, and kills you, your children and dogs, cats and gerbils if you don't. It's all quite insane, it's a poison to the heart and mind.

This is what I think most atheist look at. I don't blame them for being an atheist. I'm one too, in all but one instance.

Yes James I get that, and I should have said 'some' atheists. I just don't understand their anger at believers.

I think most of them are angry with the Watchtower first, and then extend this anger towards God, and then to people who won't agree that there is no God.

And yet, when they look at those threads (on that other site) where they've engaged in dialogue with those who believe, their anger seems to know no bounds, and although their aggressiveness sometimes needs and gets a firm reply, somehow they never actually make anyone lose their cool towards them. However much they try to needle and misrepresent, what's going on is there for all to see.

And maybe that's what's happened, in the end, since it seems that at least two threads have mysteriously vanished, presumably moderated out of existence.

Fear of death comes into it. A die hard atheist sees life leading to death, and rage against the dying of the light. Seeing others that believe they will escape annihilation and non existence, they rage against the lack of acceptance. Surrender of the ego is required to get past the anger.

"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

Dylan Thomas

Interesting perspective, Glad. I had never considered it. Might make sense, seeing as that is often a point of contention that some atheists make frequently: that a believer believes just because they are afraid of death. Perhaps it is their mind on death, after all, instead.

Peace,
tammy
