We, of course, cannot make anyone else see. But we can share the truth that we have been given by Christ, now that we can see clearly.
And that really is primarily what we're to do, dear Tams (peace, luv!): share the truth... about the Truth. Eye-ee, "bear witness" to Christ. True, by means of the gifts of holy spirit, we may be able to do other things (heal, prophesy, speak in/interpret tongues, etc.), but none of those things will give others sight. They will only perhaps make others want to know the One who GIVES sight, by wanting to know the One who grants such gifts. Or at least, give praise to the Father FOR such gifts being used to assist them.
That's why I always cringe at the way religion interprets the whole "go therefore and make disciples" thing. Folks don't really understand: we can make disciples... followers... of Christ, yes. But we can't, just by sharing what we know, make "christians". THAT requires the ability to grant holy spirit. Which is a rare thing, even for the Apostles. While we have several examples of them using the gifts (of holy spirit) given THEM, say, to heal others, prophesy, perform powerful works, etc., we have few where they granted holy spirit to others. Indeed, Paul is only mentioned as having done so once, to a group of about 12 men, in Corinth (
Acts 19:1-6). Interestingly, although Philip was led by Christ (the Spirit -
2 Corinthians 3:17) to join himself to the Ethiopian's chariot, and granted to reveal to that one who it was Isaiah had written about, and although he later baptized the eunuch in water, there is no mention of the man receiving holy spirit.
Judas was a disciple. As was Nicolaus and many others. But Judas didn't receive holy spirit; indeed, he had revealed his true nature and heart before holy spirit was poured out. He was an "apostle"... or "sent" one, yes. But he wasn't a "christian"... or "chosen one", at least not for purposes of the kingdom. Chosen to be an apostle... yes. Chosen to be a part of the Bride of Christ... no.
Disciples hear the call... and follow. Some follow, though, only for a time. The whole sown seeds thing, where some fall on the rocks, some are burned by the sun, some are eaten by the birds, etc. "Christians," however, are chosen to "go on bearing fruit." Hence, as seeds, they GROW... into "trees". Or at least, branches in the Tree (of Life).
I realize this is a bit of a deviation from what you shared, but your comment raised something in me. As you said, WE can't make others see. Our dear Lord didn't say folks were to buy eye salve from us but from him.
Revelation 3:17 All WE can do is tell folks about HIM, the One who "sells" that salve. Holy spirit, as dear 'Mom (peace to you, as well, luv!) stated.
We can only tell others the TRUTH about him, though, when we can SEE that truth ourselves. And we can only see that truth... when the log has been removed from OUR eye. So long as it remains, the "view" of him is bound to be skewed. Sure, we might be able to see that it's a log ("Well, we're ALL imperfect!"). Thing is, while we can tell it's a log, we cannot tell what KIND of "wood" it TRULY is... what kind of TREE it came from. OR... that it's rotten. Gotta have it taken out so as to LOOK at it, not AROUND it... to "see" that.
Thank you for sharing that... and the greatest of love and peace to you and your dear household!
YSSFS of Christ,
Shel
