Hmmm... they just beat this one (peace, dear ANOMOS... well, peace, relatively speaking, given the OP)? Some Israelis burned the other child to death... in retaliation for three Israelis teens that (were killed, I think). The kid burned had nothing to do with it. They just chose him, at random. Not sure how the Israeli teens were chosen. But a BIG hoopla here about the Palestinian child killed... because he was an American, too (from the Bay Area, I think, but visiting family over there). Not sure what, if anything, will be done about it.

And some Americans wonder why folks leave their countries to come here. Maybe it's because the chances of your child being burned to death "just because" he's a... whatever... are just a LITTLE less likely. I say "little less," 'cause it still depends on where you go... what your "orientation" is... what gang you belong to... or some other sundry reason for some yahoo to do something that heinous. Even here. Folks think the boonies is safe - heck, depending on the boonies, can be worse that South Central!

Peace... in the middle east... and here among you dear folks, as Christ gives it!

Your servant and a slave of Christ,

Shellamar

The boy beaten is the cousin of the boy who was beaten and burned to death. He is an american citizen. He went to Israel to visit family and to attend his cousin's funeral.

Some of those who have confessed to beating and burning to death the 16 year old palestinian boy are also youths (minor's), supposedly in revenge for the three Israeli youths kidnapped and later found dead, as you wrote, Shelby. And that is just so so sad. Children killing, children being killed, children learning to hate the 'other' or hearing and learning that they are better than the 'other' from birth on. What do people expect is going to happen? Less violence? Less hate? Peace and love? Not all are going to grow up hating or committing such acts, but how can anyone be surprised that some ARE?

Sad. Just so very sad.

On another note, I have noticed a very interesting parallel between some former IDF soldiers and ex-jws. (probably ex-many things, but those things are not on my radar). If you have ever watched 'Breaking the Silence', it is about former IDF soldiers who are now speaking out as to the truth about what they witnessed and/or did while serving in the IDF.

What got them out (or at least got them SEEING) is being confronted with the difference between what they had been told and what they actually SAW (and/or did)

Former jws (from what some of you and others have shared about your experiences) also get their eyes opened when confronted with the truth of things... that contradicts the propaganda. Kind of like a splash of cold water to the face. Sometimes more subtle though. Such as seeing that worldly people are not evil or morally bankrupt as is preached. Or being confronted with the lack of love shown in the org, or the lack of mercy, often to themselves or also to others. Such things can cause some to start looking a little more closely, and start questioning. (of course there are also those who start hearing and listening to Christ, and so start seeing the difference between the religion and Christ)

Same sort of things happen with these former IDF soldiers. Especially when they see their own people... fellow soldiers, commanding officers, and also the settlers... committing the acts of violence, or treating Palestinians like they are nothing, or provoking them into making some sort of attack, so then they have an excuse to commit violence themselves. It is a shock, especially when they go into the West Bank expecting to protect settlers from palestinian violence and are instead confronted with settler violence against palestinians and they are not even allowed to interfere in that. They are there to protect Israeli's, not palestinians.

Personally, I would not have believed that the Israeli soldiers were capable of some of the stories I had read about. I was sure that some things were made up... until I heard former IDF soldiers speaking about such things as being true, and also saw that they had to create a LAW that prevented soldiers from doing such things (like using palestinian human shields, including children).

It was just very interesting, watching some of these former IDF soldiers' videos and hearing them speak about how their eyes were opened, and how everything began to 'unravel' after they witnessed certain things being done that went against what they had been taught to believe about the 'enemy', and about themselves (the IDF).

Peace to you both, and to those who do not have peace over there also,
your sister and servant, and fellow slave of Christ,
tammy
