Any relation to the "home" depicted in the film, Philomena, dear Skals (peace to you!)? I hope so. I mean, I hope there's only one... and not more. Or many.

Anyone know?

Peace to you, all!

Your servant and a slave of Christ,

Shellamar

I thought of Philomena, too, when I read this thread. But there was certainly more than one Irish Catholic 'magdalene laundry', so...

Then of course there are also the catholic 'schools/orphanages/etc' over here that were for the native american children, and children were ripped from their families, suffered much abuse and died in these places also.

When I watched the movie, the biggest thing I saw was the 'front'. The WHITEWASHED front, but everything inside being ugly and unclean and dead. You sure can't call yourself a charity when the women you are supposedly helping have to work off their debt, or pay a lump sum just to be allowed to leave. What a lie, although I am becoming less and less surprised by it, because religion IS a lie masquerading as truth.

I am not less appalled by the innocents harmed; just less surprised.

Peace to you all, as Christ gives peace,
Your servant, and sister, and a (very grateful to be) slave of Christ,
tammy

Yeah, girl, you're right (peace to you!). Certainly were/are(?) more than one. Many more. I was just hoping this might not be a different one, thus being one that I was recently made aware of (through the movie) and not two. A girl has to hope - LOLOL!

Peace, m'luv!

YSSFS of Christ,

Shel

The atrocities the church in Ireland particularly, got away with, is disgraceful. That strongly patriarchal society was a breeding ground for such abuses. Yes there was more than one Magdelena laundry. So many lost and damaged young lives. It really hurts my heart to think of the dreadful secrets these buildings contain. Tragic. And done in the name of 'God'.
I shake my head.

Loz x

Edit: To clarify, I am not negating the church's atrocities in other countries, but this is close to home and familiar to me, and has been long hidden.

I saw this a few days ago and was again horrified!! It reminded me of Philomena except worse. Religion again at the root of all this and the Catholic Church is guilty of very MUCH of it.

Shhhhh, dear Zoe (mornin' and peace to you, dear lady!). I'm not sure we can state such truth here. Well, some of us can't. No, wait... yes... we can! ALL of us! Because... IT IS TRUTH! Just not sure "everyone" wants to read/hear/see the truth, though...

Peace... and thank you for having the courage to be candid!

Your servant and a slave of Christ,

Shellamar, recalling Christ's words, that "a LITTLE leaven ferments (permeates... contaminates) the ENTIRE lump"...
