I want to explain something that gave me some problem few years ago because I think in Spanish. It is the answer to "How old are you"?(Qué edad tienes o Cuantos años tienes?). The answer right in English, in my case, is "I am 45 years old", but in Spanish the answer is "Yo tengo 45 años". So my problem was that I translated to English word by word and my answer was "I have 45 years old". I have to confess that sometimes I make the same mistake.

Estás en lo correcto mi querida amiga( You are right my dear friend) is the same thing with hungry and lucky. For me, have been real hard to learn English. My daughter got if real fast in school, she was 13 when we moved to Massachusetts.

Buenas dias y paz a todos! Okay, so a few more things you might need to know, for example prepositions, questions, high cardinal numbers, ordinal numbers, fractions, quantities, and more!

Let's start with a few SIMPLE prepositions (and please feel free to add more, if you know/think of them):

a/al = "ah/ahl" - denotes to, at, with time. Stated with "a" along when used with the feminine article "la"; however, rather than say "a el" when using the masculine article "el", you combine the two to say "al."

Examples:

Voy a la casa ("I go to the house/I'm going home")
Vamos al hospital ("Let's/we go to the hospital")

con = "kohn" - denotes with.

Examples:

Quiero tocina con huevos ("I want bacon with eggs")
Me gusto cafe con leche ("I like coffee with milk")

contra = "konh-trra" - denotes against.

Examples:

Ponga la mesa contra la pared ("Put the table against the wall")
El coche esta en contra de la cochera/garaje ("The car is against the garage")

de = "dey" - denotes from, of, about

Examples:

Soy de los Estados Unidos ("I am from the United States")
Dame un poco de salsa de tomatillos ("Give me a little of [the] sauce of tomatillos/tomatillo sauce")
Hablame de su madre ("Tell me about your mother")

en = "en" - denotes in, on

Examples:

Ponga su pie en el zapato ("Put your foot in the shoe")
Ponga el zapato en su pie ("Put the shoe on your foot")

entre = "en-trray" - denotes between, among

Examples:

La araña fue entre los libros ("The spider went between the books")
Hay un médico entre ellos ("There is a doctor among them")

hacia = "ah-cee-ah" - denotes toward

Examples:

Tienes que ir hacia la derecha ("You have to go toward the right")

hasta = "ah-stuh" - denotes up to, until

Examples:

Puedo pagar hasta diez dólares ("I can pay up to ten dollars")
Voy a estar aquí hasta el mediodía ("I will be here until noon")

para = "pah-rra" - denotes for, in order to, so that, to

Examples:

Los uso para desyerbar el jardin ("I use them to weed the garden")
Estan hechas para la cocina "(They're made for the kitchen")

por = "pohrr" - similar to "para", denotes for, by, through,

Examples:

Por favor ("For favor/please")
Pasaron por la puerta ("They went through the door")
Se fue por mí tan rápido ("He went by me so fast")

sin = "seen" - denotes without

Examples:

Salí de casa sin mi bolso ("I left home without my purse")

I didn't do Spanish yesterday as I was feeling sick.

You have a HUGE headstart over me with your progress. It helps that you are immersed in it each day living in the USA now. I do not know any Spanish people where I live only English.

No worries, dear Zoe (peace to you!): my favorite university professor, my calculas/quantum math prof... told me that it took her 23 years to get her master's. She did it by taking one class a semester!!
