Sometimes people attribute their treatment by someone (or someones) of a certain race, religion, sex... and mistakenly apply that to all of that race/religion/sex.

Some learn it from their own parents.

Some simply learn it from the crowd, who might have been looking for a scapegoat, or might simply have lapped up all those seemingly harmless prejudicial stereotypes.

(I know you know these things, Char... just stating)

I have been guilty of it myself as a waitress when it comes to how certain people might tip... and then I may make snap judgments and have those thrown in my face when someone I thought would tip awful, tips great.

(tips or possible lack of tips do not affect the service that I give to anyone; which I sometimes think is unfair to the people who tip really well, mind you)

But just when you need it, that ONE table makes up for all the others that didn't necessarily appreciate the fact that your income is from your tips not your hourly rate, LOL!!!

Let me help you out, then, dear Char (peace to you!): racism... which is a form of thinking one is "superior"... is just one way man manifests his... feelings/perception... of "superiority"... and uses such to DOMINATE... his FELLOW man. To his own detriment, of course (if the US "founding fathers" could have SEEN what the OUTCOME of [their form of] slavery would BE... I give you, the "deep south" as well as the "inner cities" of the USofA... as well as the covert but insidious racism of the "north"... I think they would have RE"thunk" the clause that says slaves were only "3/5ths of a person."

Of course, he (man) ISN'T superior (there ARE spirit beings! Albeit, some of THEM have the same "complex" - why do these INFERIOR beings... humans... get the inherit your kingdom??!!!)... but think: you can't HAVE rich... if you don't HAVE... poor. You can't HAVE "superior"... if you don't HAVE... "inferior."

Man needs to think he is "better," dear one. Which is why I find it so... curious... when folks who don't know ME... THINK... I think... I am "superior" in some kind of way (LOLOLOLOL!). My life experiences have shown ME... that I am... nothing. Absolutely, frickin'... nothing. That I ADMIT that... well, not my problem if some can't receive that.

Racism, dear, dear Char... is simply one form of man... "dominating man... to HIS (own) injury." Along with several other things, it does NOT speak well of us... as a species (I mean, you don't see beasts discriminating, do you? Food... is food. So long as it can be captured/reaped... and eaten... it's food!).

Earthling man... soooo... "superior." Smacks of issues with self-esteem... as a SPECIES... IMHO.

Mystery solved, that woman in Bulgaria and her husband are the little girl Maria's parents and she gave her away to the woman she was living with so no crime was committed. I feel bad for them.

Read the story, sounds like Maria would be better staying in Greece but she would be OK at her parents place too. No photo of the Daddy, wonder what he looks like to produce such fair children, must be some gene in there. I find genetics fascinating sometimes.

At least this is getting attention now, and hopefully more people start to look for the truth about the Roma, rather than the propaganda.


I would have known nothing about this case, if Anomos wasn't keeping us all up-to-date on current happenings in the world.

There is footage of the daddy, but I am unable to locate it. Just a typical dark skinned Roma.
Now regarding the Roma here in Greece she was staying with and was accustomed with, I suppose she will not be able to stay with them. It will be a big trauma for Maria as she viewed them as her parents. When the police raided their home the police gave her chocolate to calm her and poor Maria took the chocolate and gave it to her 'mom' to calm her! If she knew what would follow. All her life turned upside down now. The fake father had a criminal record. Both her fake parents are already imprisoned for fraud. So they will be in for some time. They were registering their children in different municipalities multiple times to get multiple children bonuses. So Maria will either have to go to Bulgaria or be adopted here in Greece. But IMO adoption is out of the quesion with all this publicity. I think the best solution is to be given to a foster family of some wealth so she can also be able to keep in touch with her real family in Bulgaria.

"Fake" parents, dear ANOMOS (peace to you!)? So, are you saying adoptive/foster parents are fake parents? I don't understand: the BIOLOGICAL parents said they couldn't care for this child... and so she ended up with a family that not only could... but WANTED to. Per the reports, she had medical (eye) conditions that needed attention... and they got that attention for her.

Please help ME understand what you mean by "fake" parents.

I share your reactions here, Anomos.

Personally, I think the whole thing is a mess. Maria has been taken from the parents she knew. They hadn't stolen her. At first I thought maybe she could go back to them, but now I realise they're in prison for other offences. What a mess.

I don't know what the answer now is. But I do know that what has happened is wrong, tragic. At the end of the day, a little girl has been taken from the only mum she's ever known, for wrong reasons.

Poor Maria.

Poor Maria is the one suffering here, I sure hope that she can find a good home with someone that loves her.

I don't know how this whole thread turned into such a big discussion about differences of understanding of who are God's children???? I almost forgot what this thread was about until Anomos interjected about Maria again lol

There are some statements... especially ones that have been discussed recently... that are going to be disputed. If everyone looked at the same source... Christ... to understand, well, this would not happen. But just so as you know... even Char thinks it is on topic, lol:






On Maria and the Roma people: I am not sure, personally, what more there is to say about Maria's plight. She will be taken from the mother she has known... given back to the mother she does not know; or she will be given to another mother; or she might even get to stay with the mother she does know. Happens to foster children all the time too, and children who have been adopted (or in the process), but are given back to their natural parents, or taken from their parents, etc. The entire thing is sad, truly sad... for whomever it happens TO.

The prejudice, however, has turned this truly sad situation into an even more unjust situation... with lies and rumors propagated against the mom, and from her, against an entire people. So that they are just overlooked as humans with the same love and fear and hope and anger and whatever, as everyone else.

They are just as human as anyone else, and no one deserves to be 'demonized' as a race.

It is good that the prejudice against the Roma though... is coming to light. Even if just a little bit, for some who might not have known otherwise. It is a GREAT example of how EASILY mankind buys into prejudice and seeks a scapegoat. In the hopes that we can recognize it when we are doing it ourselves, and perhaps then NOT fall for it.

Back to topic:

Roma have a settlement close to my house. They always had since I was a kid. Here, there, whereever they were not chased. It is cruel to have their children roam around begging half naked, barefoot and black like coal from the dirt. Well not all are like this. Many have built luxury houses and are rich. But most are in a deplorable state. Every day they go around scavenging the garbage bins (not the only ones-but the majority) mostly to collect scrap metal. If you want to find any spare they have everything! And sometimes I make good use of it! LOL! along they carry their children, which if not missing school should be studing for the next day. And recently we heard about prostitution in a well known park in Athens.. Do you like early teens girls to sell their body for $7-8 or charge $3 for a bl****b? Should their future be that? Besides they are irresponsible bearing half a dozen or more children. That is the reason I say Maria has to be given to a foster family. To have a better future. As a matter of fact when someone (regardless what he is) is so irresponsible to bear so many children when he doesn't have the means to sustain them doesn't qualify to be their parent and raise them up. Foster families should take over. And this is a loving provision as the children this way are not deprived of their biological parents.

My apologies, too, dear ANOMOS (peace!). Forgive ALL of us ladies; we're sort of hard-wired to be able to carry on more than one discussion at a time. Sometimes even a discussion within a discussion.
