By the way, some of you bright people ought to compare the lengths of the shadows in the first pix Shelby posted, to the lengths of the shadows in the pix she just posted...

And then think about the method used by Pythagoras - among others - to prove that the earth is round...

Zid, you really need to go back and read the entire itinerary, because you are looking kinda silly. Considering that you seem to have joined just for this purpose, and you look even sillier.

Shelby and Justmom were gone for a week, btw. As for the pics, they were taken in axum, if I am not mistaken, where the pair spent a couple days... not 8 hours.

Peace,
tammy

Ah, dear Zid, GIRL... get a grip already, luv (and peace to you!).

The first pic was taken at the Axum airport when we arrived there at 8:30am Sunday. We were facing away from the sun (Mom just forgot to take her shades of). Hence, I am not squinting (just puffy-eyed from lack of sleep and cabin pressure).

The other pictures were taken about 11:30am on Monday, with me facing away from the sun (and thus, the children facing it) when I took the first one... and me looking into the sun when dear 'Mom (peace, girl!) took IT. Hence, the children are all squinting in the first pic of them and I am almost squinting in the second (they're mostly looking down) because the sun was to our right during that one and not straight on.

BUT... because I'm a woman of honesty... and would SO hate for YOU to loose ANY more sleep over this... here is a pic of my ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES ticket stubs AND my Ethiopian visa (which I paid $20 for):

Image

Now, before you let your obvious post-WTBTS PSTD cause your skepticism to continue out of control and further you mistrust past the point of its current paranoia, please note I have covered my first name because I just don't want it out there. "Shelby" is what most know me by and that's all I'm giving up about that, right now. Some know my "real" name... and I'm not trying to hide it. I just don't prefer to allow folks to "use" it as some who've come to know it have. Sorta like JAH allowing folks to use "Jehovah" - so's they don't sully up the real one, nohmsayin'? Cool.

Peace, chile'... and girl, you might wanna see someone about that amount of skepticism. Ain't healthy, a'tall...

YOUR servant and a slave of Christ,

SA, who wishes to remind folks that I didn't go the Ethiopia for a vacation and so the amount of time we spent there was plenty sufficient for the task... although, a longer stay WOULD have been fabulous, yes...

Oh I love the pictures and the stories that goes with it. Thank you so much for sharing them with us Moms and Shelby. I can't imagine that they get a lot of American visitors there, or do they? The terrain seems very deserty and dusty and rough, it is great to see how people are in other lands we rarely hear about.

Zid, I am shocked with your attitude, :8O Very very inappropriate even if you disagree with things discussed on this forum there is no need for the mean spirit and accusations of deception. Shame on you.

Lol... I don't mean to rush you, JM. Take your time. I am the worst at getting pics up after I say I will 'get to it'.

Peace,
tammy

While we're waiting on dear 'Mom (peace, luv!), who has more and much bedda pix... here's some to keep ya'llz interest (now, why the heck they're so large AND skewed sideways I have NO idea... as I "edited" everyone in the exact same way... but it was a LOT of work so ya'll jus' hafta to take 'em like this. My apologies, in advance, for any resultant neck cramps/shoulder pain - LOLOL!):

Some of our beautiful flight attendants (going in green; returning in gold/striped blouse):

Our WONDERFUL guides, Mebrahtu (outside of church, across from chapel), Sisai (w/'Mom outside of tomb of King Kabel), and the one who took us through the church on Sunday (whose name I've forgotten, sorry) at the bottom of stairs leading to the tiny church museum:

The church monument, its altar, and some of the stellai/obelisks the area is famous for (the second from the right in the first pic was returned from Italy a few years ago after being gone for about 68 years. It is in three pieces, as the Italians broke it to steal it away; the second is the largest of those in the area. Two explanations as to why it's over and broken: legend was some ancient queen had it toppled; archeology is setting too shallow for weight and height caused it to topple):

Ruins authenticated by French and German archeologists to be the Palace of Makida, "the Queen of Sheba". The first one is thought to be the front entry (as far as they know - they believe the Palace to have been much larger than what has been excavated so far); the second is authenticated to be where the "Ark" (tablet) was kept when brought back from Jerusalem by Makida/Solomon's son, Menelik. The third was the kitchen and the fourth, the "drain" from her bath:

This is Makida's (the Queen of Sheba) swimming pool, located some kilometers from her palace, for privacy. The first shows the original stairway to the pool, the second the stairway added by Haile Salassie. It's olympic sized:

A UN military airplane at Bole Airport (Addis Ababa):

Finally, the only "heartbreak" of the trip. I bought these rocks to bring home to hubby and others. I thought they were absolutely gorgeous (and cheap - about $18 for both!):

You might think they're gorgeous, too:

Yep, that's genuine AMETHYST, chikkens! The REAL deal... straight outta the plowed fields (which are FULL of rocks, both mineral/gemstones... and the plain old kind).

This one is both Mom's and my birthstone... and THE most beautiful yellow/gold OPAL... and largest opal... I've ever seen. And I've never seen one in the rough. This is a SMALL one (oh, yeah, there were some 5 times this size!):

Image

Okay, chikkens, that's enough from me. I will leave the rest for dear 'Mom who, again, to more and bedda photos.

Peace... and enjoy the eye-feast!

YSSFS of Christ,

Sheldiana

I forgot to state what was heartbreaking about the rocks: all were confiscated at the airport by Ethiopian customs officers! When I bought them, I HEARD my Lord say that I would not be able to them out of the country... but I ignored his voice ( b:/ ). Rather, I listened to the sellers who said foreigners were allowed to take no more than two and up to a certain size, which mine were under. Get to the airport... put baggage through... and get pulled over. Dear 'Mom (peace, luv!) knew right away what they were "looking" for (I had forgotten about them... AND about what I heard!).

Bottom line? NO rocks... of ANY kind, shape, form, composition, etc., can leave Ethiopia. I could, if I wished, take them back outside the airport and try to sell them to someone who was going to stay in the country, but they couldn't come with ME. I was heartbroken, of course. I asked if I could take pics of them so that I could least SHOW hubby/others I'd bought them... and they said, "Yeah, sure... out there!" and pointed back outside the airport. In other words, I could do whatever I wanted with them BEFORE entering the airport, but once IN the airport, nope. They were mine as long as they were outside the door. Once inside, they belonged to the Ethiopian government.

So, there you go, dear Ataloa: things I purchased to bring back that made me laugh... and (almost) cry!

Think I'm gonna get hubby a T-shirt that says:

"My wife flew ALL the way to Ethiopia and back in 6 days... and all I got was some PICTURES of some amethyst and opal stones she SAID she bought for me when she was there! Yeah, right!"

LOLOLOL!

Peace, chikkens!

Your servant and a slave of Christ,

Shellama

Love those pics. I can 'see' it. The palace, the bath, the Queen walking out to her swimming pool.

*sigh*

Sorry about the beautiful rocks.

Peace,
tammy
