After yesterday, a very sad day for me in many ways, despite strong inclinations not to, I have come back here. What do I find? Lampooning and attacks on the Blessed Virgin, on Mary, the Mother of God, she who bore Jesus, our Blessed Lord and Saviour. viewtopic.php?f=22&t=873&start=60 Now, this gives me the perfect opportunity to draw to your attention the significance of today. August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, of Mary, the Mother of God. Catholics observe this day and keep it as they do other Holy Days, and go to Mass. |

As to the subject of this thread, note what a catholic website states about this feast: If you are looking for direct scriptural proof of this dogma, you will not find any. Mary’s Assumption was not explicitly recorded in Scripture. However, Pope Pius XII formally defined the dogma of the Assumption in his apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus on November 1, 1950: "The Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory" (MD 44). http://www.catholic.com/quickquestions/ ... nto-heaven --Armand |

A catholic (member of the RCC), according to the Pope who wrote the doctrine of Mary, is not allowed to deny or even call into doubt this doctrine about Mary, and still consider themselves a member of this catholic faith. If one does so, then that person DOES incur the wrath of God and Peter and Paul. Those are the Pope's own words, according to the Vatican. So a catholic (RCC) does not really have a choice, if he wants to remain a catholic (RCC), on this matter. Peace, tammy |

Tammy, do tell me, which Pope do you feel "wrote the doctrine of Mary"? I'm intrigued! This is news to me! Tell us more, do! Oh, and while you're about it, would you like to tell us what the "doctrine of Mary" is, please? |

While we wait for Tammy to bring us this exciting news of a Pope who wrote a "doctrine of Mary", let me tell you about the very profound and beautiful yet very sad experience I have had this evening. Naturally, as you would expect on such a day, I went to Mass this evening, the Mass of the Feast of the Assumption of Our Blessed Lady, Mary, Mother of God, and our Mother too. The church was nearly full, lit, as the nights are drawing in now and it gets dark earlier every day. But in the side, in the Lady Chapel, was a large silent family all in black, sitting before a coffin of a young man who had died. The thing about this family is that they were not from this country and spoke no English at all. The mother, my age, was in tears. Mass was an hour. There was no sound from the family, and they came up to Holy Communion in silence, the mother weeping silent tears. After Mass, one or two of us went up to her, singly. We could say simply in a few words what was necessary, from mother to mother, and language was no barrier. The young man's body was before our statue of Mary, Mother to us all: what better place? The coffin will remain there overnight, with Our Lady and before The Lord. The funeral is tomorrow. Some of you know and are able to appreciate how very profound that hour was. For those of you who find your minds raising this objection and that objection, consider: are you so sure you are right? |
