My mum is still a JW, so we have never celebrated Mothers Day, I do usually text her and say "I know we don't celebrate Mothers Day, but I wanted to take this opportunity afforded to us by the commercial world to say that I think you're pretty awesome." She always does a similar thing on my birthday.

At every opportunity I thank my mum for being amazing. She's bern through hell, and to raise our family as she did, and for us to turn out normal - mostly ;-) - is nothing short of a miracle.

Love you mum, I wish we could share this wonderful freedom with you.

Happy Mothers Day to all us Mom's out there.

It was very sweet of you Winston to start this thread.

My Mom had been gone for a little over 6 years now, she was a JW until she died so I celebrated her day on other days than this one so as not to offend her. I miss her and wish she was still here and Mothers Day reminds me of her so its not all bad..

Me and my Mom many years ago. I was 3 months old and she was 19 in this picture. She loved me a lot and I miss her.

In Britain we celebrate Mothering Sunday in March, on the fourth Sunday in Lent, whenever that falls year by year. It is linked with the centuries-old tradition of people all over Europe returning home to their mother church on that day, and it became the day when people would go home to their mother from wherever they found themselves. Mothers used to bake a special cake called a sim bel cake on that day.

The modern observance has been commercialised by the card companies, but the traditions are very very old and entirely linked with the church.

Yes, Winston, your post about your mother was beautiful, and, Zoe, lovely to see the photo of baby you!

I've found myself missing my mother tremendously the last couple of days..,and indeed my father too. My mother died eight years ago, and my father over thirty years ago. Seems like yesterday.

Winston, glad you remind your mom of your love for her even when they can't reciprocate on so many occasions.

I lost my mom a little over 2 years ago, a die hard JW. No contact whatsoever, but I called her occasionally just to tell her I lived her as well.

I know it doesn't matter how little or how long our moms are gone, today does remind us that we do miss them ALL,

Have an awesome day regardless of what you do with it.
