Peace to you all! I have been observing something with my oldest girl puppy, Liyah, and thought I would share it here, maybe to lighten up the "mood," etc. LOLOLOL! We had Liyah first and she had established herself in the "pack" (beta female)... and then we brought Layla home. Now, it appears that Layla was beta female where SHE came from (and so enjoyed a pretty good "rank"), so the two have had to fight it out over the past 10 months. They are now "civil" with one another (although, I sustained a VERY painful bite while trying to break up a fight between them once - no skin broken, but in trying to bite Liyah, Layla bit down on a nerve in my hand that had me seeing STARS for about 30 minutes! THAT even caused me to quietly but very seriously and sternly tell them ALL, including poor little Louie - who stays out of it - that NO MORE fighting would be tolerated. They all "got" that. I digress.). As I said, the ladies are now "civil" toward each other, even loving sometimes. Layla ADORES Liyah (she must have also had a female companion were she came from, but she was numero uno between the two), but Liyah only "tolerates" her when they're in our sight; outside of our sight, she is very loving to Layla. Sometimes. A few days ago... and today... though, I notice that Liyah... kinda "taunts" Layla... and intentionally so. Here's how: When I give ALL of the dogs a treat (a piece of duck jerkey or a morsel of buttered bread, their two favorites), Liyah tends to withdraw and take hers off to eat in private, away from the other two. She prefers her "lunch" (the word I use for mealtime) that way, too, but I've squelched that because I only want to feed them all in one place. When the other two are out of sight, however, and I give only Liyah a treat... she HAS to go and eat it... right in front of Layla!! HAS to! Actually goes and either drops it in front of Layla, almost daring her to touch it... or chewing it right in her face - LOLOLOL! I realize that this is part of Liyah's "training" Layla as to her place in the "pack", but it's very... mmmm... "bitchy", IMHO - LOLOLOL! Don't get me wrong: Miss Layla played HER games and tried to establish her place when she first arrived. SHE would grab ALL of the treats, toys, shoes, whatever, and literally lay with them between her paws... and virtually "dare" Louie and Liyah to take any from her! LOLOL! Again, the fights she and Liyah would have ('cause they were Liyah's toys first!) - WHOOO-WHEEEE! Because they're VERY well matched strength-wise (Liyah is larger, but thinner; Layla is stockier and has very powerful shoulders), they seem to have reached a compromise: Layla is "queen" over the toys and one part of the bed; Liyah is "queen" over food and one part of the sofa... and HER place in the car (behind my back, as a sort of high-up "lumbar" support(er) - THAT is her place, NO compromising with ANYONE - LOLOL!). And poor Louie? My little baby boy: they both have him beat, in size, strength, and craftiness. So, he just moves/keeps out of both of those bitches way - LOLOLOL! And some people think animals are dumb (as in unintelligent). They obviously aren't dog owners! Peace! A slave of Christ, Shellama... on her own... |

Okay, now, you didn't TELL us you are really movie star Stockard Channing (or Liz Taylor?) in REAL life, dear Zoe! Peace to you... and SHAME on you for keeping such a secret from us! Can I have your autograph, though?? LOLOLOL! I wish I could do big dogs, dear one, 'cause they're so... zen. But I can't do big dog poo (I need to not be able to FEEL it when I "scoop" it! LOLOLOL!)... so I have to stick with my tiny but neurotic and so yappy little idjits! LOLOL! LOVELY pics! Peace! Shellama |

Shelby --- Love all your names beginning with the letter "L". Ooops have to go reread and catch the boy's name -- always rushing. Zoe --- Beautiful pup. I love every dog imaginable. My St. Bernard had a thyroid problem and had to lose a ton of weight. He was so beautiful. Someday I'll get another dog but after losing he and Oliver (the English Bulldog) I've not been able to face dealing with the pain/loss again. I know, I'm such a weakling and that's not a good attitude. Ahh, ok it's Louie --- that is too cute! Hey, I love how you can scroll down and read comments --- just found that out/duh! DIdn't know you could do that. |
