EXTRACTOR SAID

I'm sure we all know the NWT says "...taking in knowledge..." in John 17:3. Thought you might like to see ALL the other Versions all lined up.

(NWT) This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.

John 17:3 New International Version (NIV)
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

John 17:3 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)
And eternal life is this: to know you, the one true God, and him whom you sent, Yeshua the Messiah.

John 17:3 King James Version (KJV)
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

John 17:3 American Standard Version (ASV)
And this is life eternal, that they should know thee the only true God, and him whom thou didst send, even Jesus Christ.

John 17:3 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
Eternal life is to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, the one you sent.

John 17:3 Good News Translation (GNT)
And eternal life means to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, whom you sent.

John 17:3 New Life Version (NLV)
This is life that lasts forever. It is to know You, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ Whom You have sent.

John 17:3 Common English Bible (CEB)
This is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you sent.

John 17:3 English Standard Version (ESV)
And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

I'm certain this was done to hide from the Witnesses the fact we are supposed to have a relationship with God/Jesus AND it was done to keep the Witnesses forever reading the WT's literature. Two for the price of one. Sad.

AGUEST SAID

Not just a relationship, dear Ex (WELCOME and peace to you!), but an intimate UNION "with" him. Knowing him... as a man intimately "knows" a woman. Which is why those who "belong" to Christ is called a "bride" - he is their "husbandly owner." So that, just as a man and woman who join become "one flesh"... when one "joins" to Christ, they become "one SPIRIT."

The WTBTS doesn't teach this... because they don't KNOW it... because those who claim TO know are "FALSE 'christs'" (i.e., false "anointed"). They are actually harlots, spiritual "adulteresses"... because they follow the "law" of another "man."

A wife, however, is bound to the law of HER husband... all the days that he is alive. Christ, the Word of God... is ALIVE, dear one... and so their claim to belong to him... while following the law of the WTBTS, constitutes such spiritual adultery. They don't HAVE to do so, though, as they COULD heed the call to "Get OUT of her... MY people!"

May any of those still in that city who wish to be granted ears to hear... and so come out... when the Spirit and the Bride say to THEM:

"Come! Take 'life's water'... which water is the holy spirit of God, poured out from the innermost parts of His cistern... the Holy One of Israel, JAHESHUA, the Chosen One of JAH (MischaJah)... and His Son... FREE!"

Servant to the Household of God, Israel, and those who go with... and a slave of Christ,

SA

PSACRAMENTO SAID

There are two types of people:
Those that want to know and those that want to be told.
The difference really is on HOW they accept knowledge.
Those that want to know SEARCH it out, from BOTH sides and decide for themselves knowing full well the responsibility lies on them.
Those that want to be told, want the responsibility to lie on others.

"Taking in knowledge" is not exactly a wrong translation of the Greek word Ginosko (translated: know).

Strong's Number: 1097
Original Word ginwvskw

ghin-oce'-ko Verb

Definition
- to learn to know, come to know, get a knowledge of perceive, feel
- to become known
- to know, understand, perceive, have knowledge of
- to understand
- to know

But the WTS will always use the "technically accurate" rendering that best fits their corporate agenda.

I hear you, dear Way (welcome and peace to you!). Those are accurate. Here is what I found as to the Greek word ginosko (Strong's G1097), though:

Quote:
1) to learn to know, come to know, get a knowledge of perceive, feel

a) to become known

2) to know, understand, perceive, have knowledge of

a) to understand

b) to know

3) Jewish idiom for sexual intercourse between a man and a woman

4) to become acquainted with, to know

What I learned from my Lord as to what was MEANT is as with 3)... commensurate to the Jewish term, "yada", which makes sense since those who "know" Christ are also called his BRIDE, yes?

"Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from JaHVeH. And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. ... And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth..." Genesis 4, 1, 17, 25

In these instances, the Hebrew word for "knew"... is yada (Strong's H3045). There are many transliterations for the word yada, yes, but in the context of John 17:3 (which was originally written in Aramaic, a Hebrew dialect, first), it meant intercourse. Not physically sexual, no, but in the sense of a man and woman becoming "one" SPIRITUALLY. ONE spirit. As a physical man and woman become one... physically... when they join... create a union... literally. And there is only one way for them to do that, literally... physically.

But, of course, the WTBTS would choose the transliteration they did, as you said. Because the CORRECT rendering would make absolutely no sense to THEM... because they don't really HAVE the UNION they (well, their leaders) claim.

I hope this helps and, again, peace to you!

Your servant and a slave of Christ,

Shellama

To "know" Christ and God is to have a PERSONAL and INTIMATE relationship with them.
That is the context of KNOWING them.
For a relationship to be personal and intimate it must be direct with no "in between".
So, it is obvious why the WT promotes the "take knowledge" view.

Double yes.

So that no one feels any need (at least not from the wts) to actually KNOW Him, seeking and striving to do that... over just learning about Him.

Reminds me of this verse:

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to."

Peace to you!

Before there was a temple, before there was a "priestly" class, children learned from their fathers, the elders, they TALKED and QUESTIONED and they working things out TOGETHER.
It was MUTUAL and not "trickle down grace", it was out of love, not because it was someone's "job" or whatnot.
A child asked their father or mother why is this and why is that and the parent SPOKE out of love to the child and explained as best they could.
In things they didn't know that asked God for direction and told their child to do the same.

We have lost that.

One of the hardest things for a child to fathom is God and that God loves THEM, individually speaking.
He loves Tammy and Mary and Shelby and Paul and Peter and Jake and everyone that has love in their heart, God loves them not because they are His children but because He IS their Father.
Because God is "not here" and isn't tangible and there is so much pain, it is hard for so many to grasp a personal and loving God.

Someone asked me about pain and suffering the other day and why God allows it and most of you know that I am of the view that there is a reason for that BUT to this person I said this ( taking the cue from Tim Keller):
I don't know for sure but what I do know is that is is NOT because He doesn't care or doesn't love us, why?
IF Jesus is God, god in nature and substance, and IF Jesus shows Us WHO and WHAT God is, then what do we see?
We see God that gave up BEING God to be ONE OF US, to feel all the pain, sorrow and love we feel, to be HERE with US and go THROUGH everything we do and we see Him dying in the most horrific way, not because He doesn't care BUT because He cares SO MUCH !

So, I don't KNOW why God allows suffering BUT I do KNOW that it is NOT because He doesn't care or doesn't love us, His Son has shown Us that.

He does, and His Son did, dear P (peace to you, luv!). The why is because of what it would take to root out ALL evil: fire. Which UTTERLY cleanses, as we've been discussing on another thread. The amount of fire that it would take... the MOST HOLY One of Israel, JAH of Armies, MUST first make provisions to protect those who are to SURVIVE.

Once before, it took a Flood to cleanse. And although many more COULD have been saved through that event, only 8 humans were. Even so, evil persisted. The next time, it will be by fire... that of His OWN dynamic energy. And so He is patiently waiting for all those who WILL... to get INTO THE ARK (of the NEW Covenant)... so as to be protected. And there is only ONE Way in: through the Door which is Christ, His Son, the HOLY One of Israel, JAHESHUA, the Chosen One of JAH (MischaJah). HE... is the Way (to) Life.

If JAH were to act NOW, to cleanse the earth of evil, He would risk killing the wheat... in order to kill the weeds. He MUST let the harvest come to FULL "ripeness" so that what each on IS... wheat or weed... is MANIFEST.

I realize that that is not a "flowery" or soothing/appeasing explanation... but it is the truth. I realize that some don't want to hear such things, that they want ALL to be saved. JAH does to. As we've read, "God does not want ANY to die." Unfortunately, just as in Noah's day... only a few are actually going to get ON the Ark. WAY more than then, yes, but still not as many as the Ark can hold. Not even close.

THAT is why we MUST tell folks the TRUTH about him, Christ... so that they can turn TO him... and LISTEN... so as to HEAR him when he calls. Because it is only by means of HIS voice that they can FIND him... so as to enter THROUGH him.

If we sit silent, yet know that there's a Door, a way in... that others are "shutting up" before men and NOT allowing them to go in because THEY are going in... and KNOWING that another Flood (this time, of first) is coming... PERHAPS in our lifetime (perhaps not)... then we are, in essence, doing the same thing: KEEPING people from finding salvation.

Does that mean we go door to door, or stand on street corners, or enter churches, etc. and FORCE the message of truth about the Truth on folks? Absolutely not. We are either sent to folks... or they are sent to us. Whether THEY know it or not. And in either case, we just put it out there. In case they MIGHT want to know. Whether they hear or refrain, though, is one them. But they won't be able to say, when the time comes, "No one told ME."

And we MUST tell them... in TRUTH, and as TO the Truth.

THAT is how we show our love for God, Christ, and our fellowman (along with observing the fast and Sabbath of JAH, of course). Because lies... originate with the Darkness and the wicked one.

I hope that helps, dear one, and again, peace to you!

YSSFS of Christ,

Shellama
