The demons named Legion begged the Christ not to send them there. (Luke 8:31)
There is a fallen star that has the key to the pit of the abyss. (Rev 9:1)
There is the angel of the abyss named Abaddon/Apollyon. (Rev 9:11)
There is a wild beast that ascends out of the abyss. (Rev 11:7; 17:8)
There is an angel with the key of the abyss where Satan is hurled. (Rev 20:1) Not sure if this is the same as the fallen star and angel in Rev 9.
The WTBTS explanation seems vague:
Quote:
From the Greek word a′bys·sos, meaning “exceedingly deep” or “unfathomable, boundless.” It is used in the Christian Greek Scriptures to refer to a place or condition of confinement. It includes the grave but is not limited to it.—Lu 8:31; Ro 10:7; Re 20:3.
I've never been satisfied with that explanation. Not sure I
need to know, but would like to understand this a bit more.
