AGUEST SAID
Posted: Mon Oct 01, 2012 12:55 am Post subject: Sorry for the delay, dear P (the greatest of love and peace to you!).
I am bummed out because, again, I had typed on a very comprehensive post on this... and then accidentally deleted it. And I just don't have it in me to do it again, right now. To summarize, though (and I'm sure you're all glad I am - LOLOL!), here is my understanding:
While there are many cherubs... including (but not limited to), the two of the ark, the two guarding the garden, the four living creatures, those four that are situated within the wheels of the Most Holy One of Israel's "chariot", the one that leads that chariot, the seven (besides MischaJah'El) who are stated to have voices like trumpets, those that pour out bowls, the 7 of the "seven congregations"... and many, MANY others... there are only TWO cherubs... angels... of the ark... both of whom are "chief" angels, such that they command/lead OTHER angels:
"And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought..." Revelation 12:7
I realize that there is more on this from others but what our Lord has explained to me is that many have confused with "archangels"... because of the responsibilities given these... with what is actually a CHERUB (an angel with great responsibilities and foremost places in the assembly - not all angels are cherubs). The word "cherub" (well, in English) is what denotes high rank and responsibility... even a "chief" position of sorts.
Others (the RCC, Eastern Orthodox, Islam, Judaism, etc.) state there are 7 or so "archangels" but this really isn't accurate. There are, again, many cherubs of great responsibility and so, in that light, there are MANY "archangels." But that really isn't an accurate rendition of the word. If we want to be ACCURATE, there are two angels of the ark... and these two were the HIGHEST ranking of cherubs... and thus, accurately called "chief"... or "arch" angels. When speaking of "arkangels," then, our Lord refers to MischaJah'El (Michael) and Beli'Jah'El (Belial, the one called "Satan" and "Devil").
When speaking of the OTHER angels of great responsibility, then, they are "cherubs" (kĕruwb). Together, these are "cherubim", and have the foremost place among ANGELS... spirit beings... in the assembly (Job 1:6; 2:1). It was one of these (our Adversary) that had led the rebellion in the spirit realm.
An angel is not necessarily a cherub (or Nephi, or of the ark); however, all of these... cherubs, nephi, and the two of the ark... are angels... and seraphs.
I hope this helps and, again, peace to you!
YSSFS of Christ,
SA
