It is by no means reserved for the dying, and that is not its fullest meaning, nor ever was in some traditions. It is for healing, in every sense of that word and purpose.

It isn't in any sense "done". It is entirely a gift of Our Lord, most gratefully accepted.

Perhaps the following will help, dear Loz (good morning and peace to you, dear one!). Note, it's in direct opposition to the false teaching of the WTBTS as to ANY of the gifts of the spirit, including healing... which THEY claim have "ceased":

"Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were unbelievers, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “[Jesus] be cursed,” and no one can say, “[Jesus] is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

"Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines." 1 Corinthians 12:1-11

But the truth about these gifts doesn't stop there. Contrary to what the WTBTS teaches, here is what Paul wrote:

"Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." 1 Corinthians 13:8-12

What Paul saying is that the gifts were PARTIAL: as to be held and used, and in their effectiveness. For instance, the Body could only prophesy partially, not FULLY. Or have partial knowledge not FULL knowledge. Or wisdom. Or heal partially, not FULLY (so as to grant everlasting life). Etc.

But when that which is COMPLETE... FULL... arrives... that which was PARTIAL is what would be done away with. Christ, the COMPLETE... has not yet arrived... and so PARTIAL gifts remain. Again, they are partial but they are what MANIFESTS that one HAS received the spirit! That is why I have often shared on another site that any "anointed" who can't EXPLAIN that anointing... and the gift they have by means OF it... are not "anointed". YET. They may be heaing the CALL, most certainly. But if they've received the SPIRIT... then they have SOME way of manifesting that. Why? So that others can KNOW... and possibly NOT be MISLED... by FALSE "christs" (anointed)! Matthew 24:24

Do ALL who manifest these "gifts" possess and do so by means of holy spirit! NO! Some "break in" and "steal"!! But Paul wrote of something that would TELL us if such one received their gift from God... or not:

"... no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “[Jesus] be cursed,” and no one can say, “[Jesus] is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit."

What does he mean? He means that if someone has or claims to have one or more of these gifts but DOES NOT GLORIFY THE SON... such one did NOT receive such from Christ... but "climbed up some other way"... and so broke in and STOLE... and so is a THIEF and PLUNDERER. These "break into" the sheepfold by means of displaying such "gifts" so as to mislead the sheep. Some use these "gifts" which they have STOLEN to try and convince the sheep... the CHOSEN ones... that they are from God. The primary "gift" these use is wisdom and knowledge, having some claim of having/being the TRUTH... when they have and are nothing of the sort. Some, however, use gifts of prophesying (divination), healing (snake charming and more!, hearing/discerning spirits (psychic/medium), tongues (glossolalia, which no one can understand or interpret)... to bring glory solely to THEMSELVES... rather than to the SON. They often don't even recognize the Son OR God... but claim to have such gifts in themselves or from some other source. Regardless, they are thieves and have taken what is NOT theirs to have... or use.

From where/whom do all of these get such gifts? From THEIR "father", of course. And for what ULTIMATE purpose? "To mislead, if possible, EVEN the Chosen Ones!" John 10:1-5; Matthew 24:24

My point, however, is that such gifts DO exist, even today, even if they are only partial. By denying them, the WTBTS... and those who believe their false teaching on it... are basically denying God and the SPIRIT from Him that GRANTS such gifts... and the One THROUGH Whom they are granted.

If one has to pay, dear 'Mom (peace to you, sistah!), one might consider just how that is. Because the possessor of the gift received [it] free. How, then, should they want to profit from something that wasn't theirs' to begin with? They are gifts of MERCY... NOT retail.

Au contrare, dear Char (peace to you!): MANY an imposter (or one who did receive from Christ but turned to using the gift to gain unrighteous riches) is out there... and "selling" those gifts! One way or another. Money is either charged directly... or hinted at by means of things like "donation/contribution" solicitations. More often than not, actually.

Not ALL, of course. But many... yes.

first red flag to me. If someone asks anything monetarilary to me or even hints like you mentioned ......either gifts came through the wrong door...or the misuse of that gift initially given from CHRIST might be ALL that that one receives as a reward.
Sorta like " They are having their reward in full now kinda thing"

Oh my, yes if you need medical attention get it. It does not show, or mean you have no faith. You go to a doctor with two types of faith. Spiritual faith in the most High El Elyon and human faith the doctor you see will do all they can to get you past your illness

I give thanks every day I am awake and living. I have made intercessory prayer a part of my worship for many years. The physical and spiritual well being of others is an important aspect of our own well being. I loath those who say "Let me tell you about my Jesus". Really? Got Him in your pocket, going to whip Him out and show me?

To me that is not a good witness of your faith and for the most part turns others away from what you have to say regarding the Good News.

So, may the blessings of the Most High rain upon you and yours as the gentle spring rains down on the earth, that all things may benefit.

Q who cares not what others think of him. Only what the Creator thinks.
