Malala Yousafzai interviewed in the Daily Show. She was the teenage girl who spoke out about the state of education of girls in Pakistan, and was shot in the head by the Taliban as a consequence. She survived and has recovered well. I was touched about what she spoke in the end about not fighting violence with violence. She is one brave human being. Even now there are new threats from the Taliban to attempt to kill her again..

Violence begets violence and hate feeds on hate.
The only answer is and always has been, love and forgiveness.

There was a half-hour programme on the BBC, showing her family and also her home in the Swat valley and the school she was going to, as well as long interviews with her.

What a brave young woman! What an extraordinarily enlightened family!

It brought to mind a Pakistani girl I met at university many years ago, long, long before the Taliban ever came into being. She was thoroughly Pakistani, always wearing their traditional dress and living very much the traditional lifestyle, except that there she was in an English university, highly intelligent, and shining in everything she did. That was why the programme about Malala reminded me of her. There was that outstanding love of learning, and the high value placed upon education. So very, very different from the culture promulgated within the Watchtower world, where thinking for oneself has become a sin that justifies being wiped out at Armageddon.

Malala is a most remarkable young girl. Her speech to the United Nations was exceptionally powerful, I thought.

I can't speak for the Taliban, dear ANOMOS (peace to you!), but something I heard in a video dear tec (peace, luv!) once shared with me comes to mind. The video was of one of Saudi princes stating why, although HE wanted to bring his region into the new millennium, things had to go slowly:

The PEOPLE aren't ready for change!

Folks often forget that a ruling regime is only as powerful as the people who WANT... and ALLOW it. The west keeps thinking that Pakistan is an ally, and perhaps the GOVERNMENT is. But the PEOPLE? People EVERYWHERE resist change to their way of life. EVERYWHERE. Even in the western world. The current US government shut down is a prime example of this. No WAY should the PEOPLE of this country stand for such a thing but, well... several agencies are very well closed right now.

So... while we can TRY to blame the government of a country for certain things, sometimes it really comes down to what the PEOPLE want... and/or allow.

The Taliban is WANTED... by those who live by its codes. And apparently, there are many who do. Male... AND female, sad to say.

I hope this helps.

Again, peace to you!

Your servant and a slave of Christ,

Shellamar

Yes, absolutely agree with that.

There are people who are ready for change... but there are usually many more who are not ready for change and do not want it. Many times change comes about violently. The Saudi prince seemed to be saying that he wanted to avoid that for his people, and let them change as they are ready to change. And he doesn't seem to care too much what the rest of the world thinks about that.

Peace,
tammy

Yes, he did seem to care enough to try and help EXPLAIN to the world why change was so slow in his region, dear tec (peace, luv!). It apparently was NOT the Saudi rulership that resisted change, but the people! And that's understandable, given what occurs with change even in this country.

I think that something the western world, which is relatively YOUNG when compared to the eastern world... misses... is that the eastern world has been doing its "thing" for MILLENIA, while the western world has been doing IT'S thing for just a few centuries. So, while "we" may do things "race horse" style, they tend to do things "plow horse" style. And just like you can kill a race horse by making it pull a plow... you can kill a plow horse by making it run a race.

That was a WONDERFUL video, though, luv! If only everyone would try to see things from the POV of the one living it!

Peace!

YSSFS of Christ,

Shellamar

Yes, I heard that the moment I said that he didn't seem to care what the rest of the world thought about it.

It's not like that. The Taliban isn't Pakistan. Historically, Pakistan is composed of many different groups and cultures, and it emerged from the rest of the Indian subcontinent when India and Pakistan separated. The Taliban are one vocal aggressive group whose chosen weapon is extreme violence. Pakistan can no more single-handed lay put an end to the Taliban than other countries can easily put an end to the actions of vigorously dissenting groups amongst their own people.

Parts of the world are in turmoil. The solutions aren't simple. Even the American government is currently shut down, (far removed from a Taliban situation I know) a situation that seems both farcical and unbelievable to other countries.
