I may have shared this before, but since it's appropo now (peace to you all!):

Dear hubby and I visited the Contemporary Jewish Museum a few months ago to check out the Arthus Szyk Haggadah and art exhibit. Here is some info on Mr. Syzk and on his Haggadah:

Both hubby and I are very interested in Jewish history, and hubby in Jewish art, illumination, and calligraphy (hubby is a master calligrapher hobbyist). This particular exhibit included a lecture by one of the nations premier experts on Szyk and owner of Szyk haggadah and art, (former rabbi) Irvin Ungar. Mr. Ungar gave a really nice lecture on Szyk's art, its history, purpose, meaning, etc..

At the end of the lecture he took questions. One kind question he refused to entertain, though (well, he "postponed" comment on, saying that wasn't what his lecture was about and so he would respond later - unfortunately, he never did) was his position as to the Jews' treatment of Palestinians and what he thought Mr. Szyk would think. At least one woman openly stated that she was "sometimes embarrassed to be a Jew" BECAUSE of "what was happening in Gaza." Several people murmured/nodded in consent.

I was not only surprised, but very pleasantly surprised that a Jew even asked (the question was in MY mind but I dare not ask it! I did ask him a [Biblical] a question, though, although I cannot remember what it was, now - it's posted on this board somewhere).

Many of the middle class/affluent Jews in this area frequently travel and most visit Israel at least once per year. I cannot imagine that the Jews who are protesting haven't educated themselves to what is actually going on. They're not really the kind of folks who like to be wrong (about anything, let alone something like this). I don't say that as a putdown; I say it as a compliment - they tend to do their homework.

"What is really going on" is that after the 1947 United Nations Partition Plan
that divided up that patch of land that lay between Saudia Arabia and Syria
( both huge land masses themselves) and Tran Jordan to the east, and
Lebanon to the North.
The 1947 UN Partition Plan plan made Jerusalem
an Internationally administered 'Corpus Separatum'

( you A-Guest as a "Doctor of Law JD" should understand the Latin, right ?)

Jerusalem was surrounded by Arab lands and the Palestinians had the Gaza
and a large section along the Egyptian Border and the
entire west bank and land extending to Lebanon. in 1947

But that was not enough for the Arabs, who also held all of North Africa,
taken from Africans.

So in 1948 Arab armies invaded Israel with the intent of exterminating
all Jews and driving them into the sea " driving them into the sea" is a term
still used by Arabs today. The aggressors were Arabs.

Yet you persist in trying to paint the Palestinians as helpless victims of
Israeli aggression. Israel, much to the surprise of the Arabs defended
themselves and defeated the Arab armies who attacked them and proceeded
to occupy the hostile countries that invaded Israel. Just like any nation
who is attacked, does. Including your own country.

You want to cry "occupation" What about Syria's assassination of the Lebanese
President for being at peace with Israel and subsequent occupation of lebanon
for the last 30 and more years ? Not aware of that I assume ?
As your proclaim yourself to be a "Doctor of Law" and a "historian" I think there
is something fishy here, something bogus, something not truthful.

Since then Palestinians have strapped bombs to pregnant women and children,
they have blown up buses, and schools and hijacked planes and keep on bombing
and firing missiles into civilian neighborhoods in Israel. And the Palestinians glorify
sucicide bombers as heroes, heroes who kill women and children on buses and planes.
And you are cheering on these suicide bombers ? Do you also veil yourself ?
Are you in fact Muslim ? Do you know what the Quran says about Christians ?

But all you want to see is the photos of what happens when Hamas uses children
and schools and civilians as human shields and propaganda photos to make
themselves out as victims and helpless.

Israel supplies GAZA Palestinians with jobs and they pour across the
Israeli border every day to work and get paid and Israel put in all the utilities and roads
and waste management and schools.

Israel dragged its own people out of the Gaza and gave it to Palestinians and
then instead of working on creating a peaceful functioning society all
the Palestinians do is take whatever money is given them ( because they
earn nothing on their own) and then they buy weapons and fire them into Israel.

Dear VG... again peace to you and, again, I can see this is a passionate issue for you. It is not for me. It is based on history which I have linked several resources for support on. You have only posted your (very passionate opinion) and (as far as I can see - I haven't read every thread yet) one link... which included maps... and commentary... that seem to dispute your "version" of what occurred.

Since I think I've included enough info to support why I believe things are as they are, and not just my (very passionate but very wrong opinion), I'm going to leave off this discussion, at least in this thread, as I see no benefit in "arguing" about it.

Please, though, try to refrain from calling me... and perhaps others... anti-semetic? Because that insinuates [a form of] racism that I personally don't possess... indeed, nothing could be further from the truth... and so constitutes libel. And I don't think you mean to go there. So...

Again, peace to you... truly. I hold out an olive branch as I do not wish others' conflict to become a basis for one between you and I. That's not what this board is about.
