Sigh. Yeah, I recently watch an Anthony Bourdain show (I love him! He's a no-nonsense, tell it like it is, author and former American executive chef who travels the world eating in different venues - I can't remember if it was from his "Parts Unknown" or "No Reservations" show - I love BOTH!). The segment was shot in Jerusalem (I think it was Jerusalem, vs. Israel in general).
Anyway, Mr. Bourdain (who is half-Jewish (mom) and half-Roman Catholic (dad), but non-religious, for the most part)... wanted to visit the PALESTINIAN part of Jerusalem, due to cuisine he had eaten cooked by various Arabic friends in NYC. And, of course, what he showed as to Israeli Jews vs. Palestinians was remarkable. For some, the fact that Jews are a large part of the Bible seems to (erroneously) convince them that Jews do no wrong. However, if one is really paying attention when reading the Bible they would see that, for the most part, the entire thing is almost all about how the Jews DID wrong (and not vice versa!).
It was VERY interesting show, IMHO. Very interesting to see what a non-practicing Jewish Roman Catholic learned as to Palestinians/Arabs/Muslims. And it wasn't pretty (from the Jewish/"christian" perspective). Much was depicted/discussed as to how Palestinians are treated... have been treated since about 1946 (remember, dear Tec (peace, luv!) posted that very telling video montage - Mr. Bourdain visited that slum, too... and was appalled - who wouldn't be?). Of course, he came away with a very different view of Palestinians... and Jews... and "christians." Who wouldn't?
But I love shows like that (travel, global cooking, etc.) as they give one a glimpse of other countries/cultures from a (pretty much) non-political POV. Helps put things in a more objective perspective, IMHO.
