- Hamas is said to have broken the ceasefire. Hamas, however, is denying responsibility. Apparently, the break was by Islamic jihad - regardless, Israel is holding Hamas responsible since their position is that Hamas has iron fist over area of Gaza and nothing occurs without their approval. I'm not sure that's "fair" - it is very likely that Islamic jihad broke the ceasefire for the very PURPOSE of causing further dissent, division, and conflict... BETWEEN "Israel" (Judah/Jews and Israel/Palestinian Arabs who don't KNOW they're Israel, too!).
Israel is claiming Hamas captured two Israeli soldiers and killed one. HOWEVER... a Hamas spokesman is VEHEMENTLY denying ANY capture and speculating that Israel is merely blaming them for missing soldiers (possible injured/possibly deserters), or who may not even be missing... and that Israel will change their story once the world is no longer gasping at the possibility.
Hamas is claiming that ISRAEL broke the ceasefire by bombing a house less than 2 hours after the ceasefire... and they have NO idea why Israel did that AND is making up a story about the soldiers. They are claiming that Israel is "mixing a fact (missing soldiers) with a false (Hamas kidnapped them) to try and convince people that they are right. Per Hamas spokesman, Israel kept on firing even after ceasefire was called.
ISRAEL and others, however, are holding Hamas RESPONSIBLE... because, their position is "Hamas holds the area with an iron fist. NOTHING can occur without their knowledge and permission."
Here, though, is the thing, per CNN interview with Hamas spokesman:
The "agreement", which apparently allowed Israel to CONTINUE military activity (as to the tunnels in Gaza), was NOT accurately communicated to Hamas. HAMAS was told there would be NO military activity, NONE at all. And so Hamas (mis)interpreted continue military action by ISRAEL (i.e., the bombing of a house in Gaza) as ISRAEL breaking the ceasefire. Even so, Hamas claims they did NOT fire the missile claimed to be THEIR break of the ceasefire. Islamic jihadists did so.
Who the HELL is "brokering/mediating" this thing???
Now, the UN Undersecretary, admitting that the UN does not DIRECTLY speak with Hamas (leaders), is saying "We have 'ways' to get our concerns to Hamas, and they have 'ways' to get their concerns to us." Those "ways" are apparently through "regional leaders." Ummm... huh? "Regional leaders"?? What does that mean??
Not that I'm pro-Hamas - I am not. They do not represent the Palestinian people, per se. They ARE, sadly, among the limited and slim avenues for HOPE that some of the Palestinian people [think they] have.
But as a certified mediator, I can't fathom that BOTH sides aren't being communicated with EQUALLY. I mean, sure, sometimes you communicate through a family member/counsel... but if things aren't going WELL... you need to move past those conduits! You HAVE to... because the problem is USUALLY that "something... got LOST... in the [TRANSLATION]." So, you have to move the "interveners" OUT of the way. Just you... maybe a lingual translator... and the party in question. So that you can communicate CLEARLY to them... and them to YOU... what the AGREEMENT is. You certainly need to know something about their culture. For example, that yes MEANS yes, no MEANS no... and "ceasefire" MEANS... cease ALL fire. Or doesn't. But BOTH parties need to have a CLEAR understanding as to the agreement!
Either way, the act is being condemned by most Arab states (IF it was Hamas).
If is was, hopefully, Israel will stop and reflect a moment and not take it out on the INNOCENT Palestinian people. Because apparently, the Arab states that (currently) condemn Hamas (for this act) are also saying they won't stand for Israel doing an all-out blitz and injuring/killing more innocent people. If it WASN'T, hopefully, Israel ISN'T playing the game Hamas is claiming they are but has just mistakenly believed their soldiers taken by Hamas... and will find them and set the matter straight.
I realize that most folks think highly politically trained mediators are the best "men" for this job. I am not so sure. Perhaps it needs folks who have NO political ideals, connections, etc., but just want to help the parties TRULY... and EQUITABLY... attain peace. In which case, it might take a poor little man... who was a Jew... AND a Palestinian.
Maybe.
Peace... in the way Christ gives it... to those affected by this tragic set of circumstances.

P.S., Apparently, severely wounded Palestinian children greatly in need of medical care can't get such... because they can't leave Gaza so as to GET such help... without approval by Israel. Nor can help come in... without approval by Israel. Thus far, Israel has approved only 8 to get care... out of over 4,000 (per CNN on the ground report, just now). They are refusing to approve more. One approval was the brother of one of the children killed on the beach. Per the mother, "They gave a life, because they TOOK a life."
NO clean hands in this conflict.
